I have posted more dogs looking for homes on the homing and rescue page of the site. As you will see there are three new ones, Gelsomina, Lana and Pasqualino, with a fourth to follow, Papera, whose picture is here. Let me quote from the email that was sent to me by Nemony who is helping to rehome the dogs. It breaks your heart.
"Gelsomina's story is the most common. As the car drives away, dogs often sit
for days and weeks in a desolate spot, hopelessly waiting for their owners to
return. Others are left on highways, so that death will come swiflty, with
complete disregard not only for the animal who has loved them dearly, but also
for the safety of passengers in oncoming cars. This practice is illegal, and
punishable by law with steep fines and reclusion, but unfortunately still rife.
The dogs most ignored in Italy are the elderly, well, above 6 years of
age really, and they often end their days in barren cages on the cold damp
cement, despite the fact that they are sweet, quiet, already used to household
noises and in most cases fit into any home like a glove. "
Please help at least some of these poor dogs find a home. There is a good network of animal sanctuary workers who can help transport them anywhere in Italy. If you can't rehome them yourself please let as many people as you can know about this site. If we could save even one dog it would be wonderful.
